Knights in Action

Biloxi (Miss.) Council 9409 cook and sell food at Thursday night Bingo at Our Lady of Fatima Church to raise money to support a man studying to become a priest for the Diocese of Biloxi.  We send the seminarian a check every month for his personal expenses.    So far, the council has supported several future priests over the years.

2017 Thursday night Bingo Schedule

Brother Knights,

Our council runs the kitchen at the Thursday night Bingo.  The profits from the kitchen support our Seminarian.  We could always use extra help.  Call Carl McCardle when needed.

There are 3 phases in the kitchen: (1) Set up; (2) Cook and serve; (3) Clean up.

Thanks and God bless,

Danny Lechner, PSD

30th Anniversary of the Reinhart Schroeder Council No. 9409

The Reinhart Schroeder Council Number 9409 of the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of Fatima in Biloxi celebrated their 30th anniversary at their monthly social meeting.

On October 12, 1986, the Reinhart Schroeder Council Number 9409 was chartered with a membership of 39 men.  This was 394 years after Christopher Columbus discovered the New World.  The council was named after Reinhart Schroeder who was dedicated to the ideals of the Knights of Columbus.  Reinnie died during the Third Degree Exemplication in Bassfield, Mississippi on January 28, 1979 of a heart attack.

The majority of the new council members transferred from Biloxi Council Number 1244.  Forest Taylor was elected the first Grand Knight.  Monsignor Francis Farrell, Pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Biloxi was the chaplain.  “We have had two members serve as district deputy and one served as the Mississippi State Deputy.  The council has been bestowed with many accolades from the state and supreme councils.  The most coveted, was having members winning the state ‘Family of the Year’ award three times.  Our council has grown over 35% over the last thirty years”, said Daniel Lechner.

“The brothers have come a long way in the past thirty years,” said Charles Brimmer, the current Grand Knight.  But, we still have a long way to go.  Our goal is to be one of the best councils in Mississippi.”

From the moment of our founding in 1882, charity has been the first principle of the Knights of Columbus. We are men of faith and men of action.  In 2015, the Knights of Columbus set a new all-time record for the 17th consecutive year.  Our charitable donations increased from 2014 by more than $1.5 million to a new total of $175,079,192. In addition, we achieved our highest level of charitable service in 2015, volunteering more than 73.5 million hours of service. The number of service hours contributed by Knights rose in 2015 by more than a million over the previous year’s total.  “We are answering Pope Francis’ call to go to the peripheries,” Supreme Knight Carl Anderson said. “We can reach half way around the globe to help those in need and we can reach to our neighbor next door. And we do that every day. That makes us witnesses to the faith.”
